Week 6: No progress
Another week, more nothing. We have meeting tomorrow with the Hansen and Horn VP of sales, I’m very interested to hear what their explanation is for the significant delays. For those keeping score, in addition to the three weeks we’ve waited here for framing to start, we also waited more than four weeks for groundbreaking to happen after our pre-construction meeting. So thus far, we’ve spent 6-7 weeks during the “construction” period simply waiting, and only had about 2-3 weeks of actual work. (This post is titled “Week 6″ because I really only started counting here on the blog since groundbreaking.)
As I stated in my previous post, we’re now concerned the house won’t be done by the end of the year. Based on the original assurance that a Nov 30 completion date wasn’t a problem, we entered a lock-and-lower financing program with a window good until Dec 31, 2009 — but there’s fees associated with not closing on the loan by then. This, by the way, is with Hansen and Horn’s preferred lender. So although they guaranteed us the $8000 first time homebuyer’s credit for missing the Nov 30 date, there’s now this issue of missing the Dec 31 window because of the financing setup. My email to them last week was clear on this point, and that — along with all the comments on this blog by other H&H customers experiencing problems — has apparently led to this meeting being setup for us with the VP of sales.
I don’t like having to be the squeaky wheel, but sometimes that’s what it takes. We’ll see what they say tomorrow.

Hi Matt:
Apparently, Hansen and Horn isn’t aware of the potentially positive/negative media your blog could generate. It sounds like they really dropped the ball. Is there any type of performance penalty if they don’t complete your home on time? Any potential tax implications if you don’t close by the end of the year ($$$)?
I hope they have some answers.
