This post is about the first home we attempted to build with Hansen and Horn. We've since terminated our contract with them, and are building a new house with Bedrock Builders. This post is kept for archival purposes. Read what happened ›

Still framing

After the work done to get the first floor framed in on October 21, nothing had happened until yesterday (October 29). I stopped by late after work; it was too dark to take pictures, but they were still working at 7:00 and it looked like the garage had been framed in and the second level floor joists were going in.

Despite Alan’s assurances, I’m naturally becoming more concerned about H&H’s commitment and capability to actually finish our house. Messages received through this blog from both other customers and contractors about delays and lack of payment do not make us feel better about Hansen and Horn’s stability; I’m trying to take everything with a grain of salt, because who knows what other factors are at play in each situation, but it all leaves a bad taste.

We’re now 30 days from the original “due date” of our home, and it’s not even fully framed yet.

We’re hoping they’ll continue to work the kinks out. Our Realtor Jim Gable has really helped us light a fire under them lately…I hope things pick up, or else we won’t even be in there by February.

I’m sorry this process is taking you so long. It just seems that the company is so sporadic with the customers. They started framing our house last Monday and pretty much finished it in a week. The outer walls are ready – just need windows. We stopped by Saturday and they were putting the trim on. Of course, ours is a ranch, but it still seems strange to me that it has taken SO much longer for yours. Where is the consistency?

Matt and Amanda…I just found your blog through a group of very jilted and angry H&H customers.

I’m very sorry for the mess you’ve been through thus far, but as much as I hate to say it, I fear that it will never improve.

To you and all the many other H&H customers who I know have found community on this blog: I hate to add to your concern, but truthfully, Hansen and Horn has put us through a true nightmare and we would implore you to be cautious, vigilant and proactive or else you will be fully taken advantage of.

We have a realtor, lawyer, mortgage agency and even the developer of our entire city (one of the nations largest developers) involved in our nightmare situation with them and H&H doesn’t move or act for ANY of them.

We are to the point of pure desperation and months of homeless-ness while H&H holds our nearly finished home hostage…

I will happily share the story with you privately, although it’s nearly unbelievable at this point.

I encountered this blog recently and I believe it will help shed light on what ALL of the H&H vendors are experiencing: http://indianapolishomebuildercomplaints.com/

I don’t wish what we’ve experienced on my worse enemy… I hope that some kind of miracle happens for you.
