Week 6: Framing nearly complete

Things are looking good! Framing’s almost done; Sean says it will finish on Monday. We’ve got the whole structure in place now, and can really get a sense of the space inside. And, now that the windows are set, we’re officially past the point that the first house got to. Six weeks versus four months.

Sean did a quick walk-through with me this week; this wasn’t one of the official sessions, but I had a few questions about the audio wiring and he was happy to talk about that and answer other general questions I had about what was going on at this point in the process. I was impressed with the attention to detail, especially when it comes to the little things that can greatly affect energy efficiency. We’re very optimistic that this house will be quite efficient.

As I was walking through, some things particularly stood out now that we can finally see them coming together. I really love the wall with the fireplace in the great room; those little transom windows we added will integrate nicely with the built-ins I plan on making. It’ll give us a more unique look on that wall compared to most fireplace built-ins, I think…plus it gives you a little light coming in from all directions when you’re in the great room.

The upstairs hallway feels quite long; the secondary bedrooms are nicely separated from the rest of the living space and from the master. The upstairs loft area feels a bit bigger than I thought it would be (which is good) and has a great view of the park/common area across the street.

Everything’s proceeding on schedule so far. Bedrock Builders continues to be great to work with. HVAC will start this coming week!
